At Fairfield High School, our students are central to all we do. Just as the essentials of literacy and numeracy are pivotal to academic success and career aspirations, so too is the overall health and fitness of our students. To promote the importance of diet, nutrition and physical activity, all Year 8 students are currently involved in the Intensive Health and Exercise Program.
This program has been taking place for one lesson every day for the past two weeks, and the Year 8 cohort from the high school, along with 45 IEC and SEU students, have been eager to be involved and are focused on improving their fitness levels.
Over the six weeks they rotate through a range of activities including: Strength and Conditioning; High Intensity Interval Training; Flexibility; Cardiovascular and Muscular Endurance; Speed and Agility; X-Fit Kids; Obstacle Course; Games and Diet and Nutrition.
This unique program, put together by our PDHPE staff under the leadership of Mr Adam Johnson, and coordinated by Mrs Cheryl Weber, is now in its third year. The program has proven to be beneficial to the physical and mental wellbeing of our students and assists them to maintain academic focus in the classroom. Staff across the school have given freely of their time and expertise to ensure the smooth running of the program – FHS is fortunate to have a staff committed to assisting the health and wellbeing of our students. We look forward to tabling the successes of our Year 8 students, at the conclusion of the program.
