Today Fairfield High School hosted the inaugural Refugee Expo. Deb Edwards surpassed herself in organising this community event that reached out to refugee parents and families, community organisations and government agencies.
Dignitaries included Mark Scott (Secretary of the Department of Education), local and state MPs for Fairfield, Frank Carbone and Guy Zangari, and Ray Williams Minister for Multiculturalism...to name a few.
There were over 40 stall holders in attendance offering their services to the Fairfield community.
Our parents and community were entertained by some of our talented music students, IEC drummers and choir, and the choir and dancers from Fairfield Public. Even our principal and deputy principal got up and joined the dancing on stage. (Yes there are photos and video footage of the Borg and Knapman quick-step).
The Refugee Expo also provided the platform to launch Our Faces Our Stories. The speeches of Romyana Warda and Nina Shamo were heartfelt, inspiring and left many in the audience in tears.
Our wonderful TAS students also kept our community caffeinated and well fed while our SRC did an outstanding job in managing the crowd and distributing FHS show bags.
So many teachers and staff have been working tirelessly over the last few weeks as well as today to make the Expo the success that it was.
