About our school

Fairfield High School is a co-educational high school offering a broad curriculum and comprehensive education with an emphasis on catering for the needs of the individual.

Students from various backgrounds are welcomed into this multicultural learning community. A well established Intensive English Centre (IEC) caters exceptionally well for new arrivals to our country. Many of its students exit into our high school on graduation. The school has a particular focus on the need for each student to achieve their academic, sporting and social potential. The positive nature of the school is evident in its award and welfare systems. The aim of the school is to produce informed, confident and caring individuals through many quality programs promoting community achievement, respect and the environment.

Fairfield High School is a comprehensive, public co-educational Year 7 to 12 high school with a vibrant and enthusiastic staff who work collaboratively to inspire creativity, excellence and success in our students.

The school was established in 1954 and is situated in the Fairfield local government area in south-western Sydney. It comprises a population of approximately 950 students. Our 18 hectare site houses state of the art facilities including: an Industrial Hospitality Kitchen, Retail Centre; gymnasium; weights room; tennis courts; Ultimate Soccer fields; specialised Literacy and Numeracy centres; a Performing Arts and Drama studio; 21st Century classrooms; a Special Education Unit; and an Intensive English Centre.

Fairfield High School offers a broad curriculum catering for individual student needs and aspirations. There is a visible emphasis on literacy, numeracy, technology and vocational learning across all Key Learning Areas and Stages.

In the junior years, students study the compulsory BOSTES courses (English, Mathematics, Science, PDHPE, History and Geography); and are offered a range of Stage 5 electives including STEM, Visual Arts, Commerce, Information Software Technology, Dance, Drama, Industrial Technology Timber, Food Technology, Music, Physical and Applied Studies, Spanish and Photography.

The school offers a flexible senior curriculum allowing for ATAR, non-ATAR and VET pathways. Students are able to select their Stage 6 course of study from a range of electives including: Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Business Studies, Drama, Geography, Modern and Ancient History, Society and Culture, Engineering Studies, Food Technology, Legal Studies, Family and Community Studies, PD/Health/PE, Visual Arts and Photography. The school also offers all levels of Mathematics and English including Extension courses. For students seeking a Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification, Fairfield High School offers courses in: Business Services, Retail, Construction and Hospitality. For students choosing a non-ATAR pathways, Floristry, Hair and Beauty and Barista courses are also available.

The school runs many programs and initiatives to support and promote student academic learning, well-being and career development. These include:

  • Intensive Reading, Writing, Numeracy and Health Programs
  • Gifted and Talented Soccer Program
  • An accredited course in the Certificate of Spoken and Written English
  • Career and transition programs incorporating career lessons, work experience, workshops and seminars
  • A dedicated Senior Study for Year 12 students
  • EAL/D and LaST staff to provide additional student support
  • A Year 8 Self Select Class
  • A free functioning Homework Centre available after school for all students
  • An innovative Student Representative Council (SRC)
  • Debating and public speaking

Our school is committed to building positive relationships with parents, local businesses and community organisations. We hold regular Parent meetings, subject tasters and teacher interviews to engage and involve parents; as well as local business and community morning teas and initiatives.
